Sweden, officially called the Kingdom of Sweden, is a Scandinavian country in Northern Europe. When hearing of Sweden, most people think of winter. But because of the warm Gulf Stream, the Swedish climate might be much milder than you would expect. Each of the four seasons can be quite different depending on which part of Sweden you are planning to visit. There are about 200 ski resorts to choose from, if you are planning to visit Sweden in winter. Without any doubt, Sweden is one of the best countries on Earth for aurora spotting. From the end of September until the start of April, you have the best chance of catching the northern lights, which is one of the reasons why to visit Sweden during this time. In summer, on the other hand, you can go boating or kayaking, since Sweden has thousands of lakes and islands to offer. Sweden´s Artic north has been called as the “land of the midnight sun”, because during summer months the sun never sets. The Sweden´s capital Stockholm is spread over more than fourteen islands and is renowned as one of the most handsome cities in Europe. The tradition of eating pea soup and pancakes every Thursday has been upheld in Sweden since World War II. And therefore, most of the traditional restaurants serve pea soup and pancakes with lingonberry jam on Thursdays. Lingonberry jam is widely used in Sweden to accompany a variety from dishes, from meatballs, pancakes to porridge and black pudding.
