    All about the Trekking in Caucasus Mountains

    Traveling on one of the most spectacular routes of Greater Caucasus. Experience impressive landscapes, untouched nature, charming villages and ruins of ancient fortresses decorate the entire remote trail. This trip gives opportunity to travel on lands of legends and fairytales, feel the real freedom and familiarize centuries old traditions, unique culture and well-known hospitality of locals where guests are considering as a gift from god.

    During the trip you will discover several highlands of Georgia through crossing connecting passes.
    Chaukhi Pass is a popular trail which is connecting Kazbegi and Khevsureti regions. One side of the pass you will discover famous Kazbegi region and pretty village Juta, on the other side of the pass you will enjoy panoramic views of Khevsureti region with alpine meadows and colorful Abudelauri lakes.

    The peaks and valleys of the Tusheti region offer a diversity of outdoor activities such as trekking, hiking, horse ride and contains one of the largest protected natural areas in Europe. Starting at the village of Omalo, you’ll make your way through stunning landscape to the beautiful hillside villages, once you’ve crossed Atsunta Pass you’ll find yourself in Khevsureti, a remote, high mountain region in the north-east.

    1. Day 1 Arrival in Tbilisi

      Afterrrr arrival at Tbilisi International Airport, once you collect all your luggage and go to ”Arrivals” Section of the Airport, our company’s representative will meet you and escort you to the vehicle and will take you to your hotel.  After Check-in you have free evening to have a relax and gather strength until beginning your adventure.

    2. Day 2 Free day in Tbilisi

      Today guests have free day in Tbilisi in order to prepare for long trekking ahead.

    3. Day 3 Tbilisi – Kazbegi – Juta

      After Having a Breakfast in your hotel, you will meet the Driver and Guide in your hotel lobby, the route will take over the Georgian Military Highway up North, towards the border with Russia. Your first stop will be Jhinvali Water reservoir created during the soviet era, promptly continuing to Ananuri complex, a former residence of Argveti Dukes. The complex features churches and towers dating back to the 16-17th centuries, beautifully overlooking the Jhinvali reservoir.

      Continuing on the way you will reach Gudauri Ski Resort, where you can enjoy the Winter Sports during winter or be more adventurous and experience Paragliding in every season with local professionals.

      Afterwards, we will drive over the Cross Pass and make a short stop at the Soviet-era “People’s Friendship” mountain view point overlooking a deep gorge of Caucasus mountain range.

      After arriving to Kazbegi, we will have small trekking to reach Gergeti Holy Trinity Church located on altitude of 2170 meters.  From here guests have possibility to enjoy with breathtaking views of Mt Kazbegi and surrounding mountain peaks.  Afterwards drive to the direction of small village Juta.

      This small village is located at the bottom of Chaukhi mountain range where you can enjoy with breathtaking panoramic views.

    4. Day 4 Juta – Chaukhi Pass – Abudelauri lakes – Roshka

      After the early morning breakfast, we will start to cover one of the most popular trail which is connecting Kazbegi and Khevsureti regions. It is compelling due to a proximity of imposing Chaukhi massif with its seven sharp peaks and necessity to scale 3341 meters high Chaukhi pass. At the other side of the pass, you will find meadows with fascinating rock formations which are known as Roshka stones and Abudelauri lakes – three beautiful alpine lakes with different colors (green, blue and white).
      During this trip, you will enjoy with breathtaking views of Chaukhi Pass, alpine pastures and colorful lakes. Chaukhi pass is a great viewing point and also a place to have a lunch. Walk from Juta takes over 4 hours so it should be around noon when you get there. After crossing this pass, the trail then continues down the valley in parallel with the river, slowly losing elevation. To the left, you will see so-called ”Roshka stones” – wandering boulders, that have been brought here by glaciers from Chaukhi massif.
      At the end of the day you will reach beautiful small village Roshka, surrounded by alpine mountains it’s a nice place for overnight.

    5. Day 5 Roshka - Datvisjvari Pass – Shatili

      After breakfast, our driver will meet you at your guest house and continue our way to the direction of fortress village Shatili. In order to reach Shatili, we should cross Datvisjvari Pass (2677m) which divides region in two part. Our way follows to main river Arguni, on the way we will see medieval centuries towers and fortresses such as Leibaiskari and Kistani.
      After arrival in Shatili, you will have possibility to visit ancient towers and fortresses of this village and enjoy picturesque views of surrounding mountains.
      in this old and remote village we have chance to familiarize with ancient traditions, unique culture and well known hospitality.
      Have a traditional dinner in local family and overnight in guest house which is located in ancient tower.

    6. Day 6 Shatili – Mustso – Ardoti – Khidotani

      After early breakfast drive to the direction of Atsunta Pass. On the way visit Mutso Fortress and village Ardoti. From Ardoti we will start our trekking, through the village Bakhao we will reach Khidotani ridge. On the ridge you will be overwhelmed by the view on Caucasus and Migmakhevi. The breathtaking views will stay with you and will encourage you. The path follows the ridge; On the way you will meet the board police station from where the route goes along the  mountain slope. The trace is good and the path is less dangerous. At the beginning of the steep uphill there is place for wild camping. You have already covered some distance and it is better to rest in order to energize and prepare for Atsunta Pass.

    7. Day 7 Atsunta pass – Kvakhidi

      Today you have to overcome the Atsunta pass. There is a lot of height to gain and an impressive altitude to lose as well.

      Prepare and bringe enough water for one day, because along the pass until the bottom there is not drinking water available. Ascend is difficult and it is better to be careful as there is long way ahead. You will need 2-3 hours to go from the bottom to the top of the pass. The pass at 3,530 m (11,575 feet) is a cold windy place, with the wind blowing a blizzard. From the top of the pass you will  enjoy the beautiful views of Khevsureti and Tusheti. From the bottom of the pass till Khvakhidi based camp is not short but, easier for walk.
      At the end of the day set up camp near village Kvakhidi.

    8. Day 8 Kvakhidi –Chontio - Girevi

      For today, our plan is to reach village Girevi. For the first time you will meet village Chontio, which has the most original look. The ruins of this village make a good spot to take a breather as you soak in the aura of the ancient structures. Through the alpine meadows we will reach Girevi where we will set up camp for overnight.

    9. Day 9 Girevi - Parsma - Chesho – Dartlo

      For this tour, Girevi is a last point of trekking route. At the morning our driver well meet guests at Village Girevi and pick them up. Our tour continue to the direction of Omalo. On the way we will visit several beautiful stone villages such as: Parsma – the real Pharsma village is located above the road, nestled among the ancient ruins which can not be seen from road.  Our next stop is Chesho –  like other ancient villages on the route, Chesho is a marvel to look at from distance, surrounded with alpine mountains Chesho is nice place to visit. And the last destination for today is village Dartlo which is considering as fairytale of Tusheti. Walking through this ancient village you not only get a glimpse of true Georgian culture and traditions, but you step back in time — a history unknown to modern civilization.

    10. Day 10 Dartlo – Omalo – Tbilisi

      After the breakfast, we will left Dartlo and visit Omalo, which is administrative center of Tusheti. From Omalo we have last views of the region and start to drive down the Abano Pass, highest point of the pass is 2,826. According the BBC this road is considering among the world’s most dangerous roads. So, way from Tusheti is another attraction itself.
      After the long trip, arrival in Tbilisi and drop off to the hotel.

    11. Day 11 Good bye, Georgia!

      According the flight time, transfer to Tbilisi airport and start journey back to home with incredible memories and adventures.

    The most suitable time for mentioned trekking tour is from end of June till end of September.

    Necessary equipment:
    Comfortable hiking suites, high quality raincoats, waterproof hiking boots; warm clothing, thicker and thinner hoodies, T-shirts, hats, hiking sandals, hiking sticks, sunscreen cream, sunglasses.
