The Czech Republic is situated in Central Europe. The land is covered in mountains, forest and picturesque landscapes. Czech Republic is a member of the European Union, NATO and Schengen Convention.
Summer is the most beautiful season there. Place worth seeing is the capital and the biggest city in the country - Prague. This old city is located on the Vltava River. Another popular sight is Karlovy Vary, thanks to hot springs this town became a famous attraction in the 19th century. Karlovy Vary is also famous for its international film festival held annually. Another important city is Brno. The first inhabitants settled there already in the 5th century, so Brno is rich in cultural heritage. In the castles, churches and museums of Brno magnificent history is exhibited. Moreover, biologist and the father of modern genetics Mendel carried out his famous experiment on heredity using peas in this historic city.
Hills and mountains cover about 95% of the country – ideal for skiing, mountain biking and hill walking. Wild boar and foxes are found in the abundant woodlands.
The Czech Republic produces world-famous beer, including Pilsner. Wine is produced in the southern regions of Moravia and in a part of Bohemia. A record number of 900 natural springs have also ensured that the country produces plenty of mineral water. Traditional dishes include “knedlíky”, a type of dumpling made from potatoes or bread.
