Poland is located in the eastern part of Central Europe. There have been many conflicts in history, due to its geographic location and terrain, since Poland is the link between Western and Eastern Europe. Throughout centuries the territory of Poland has often changed. Today Poland is a country playing an important international role not only in Europe but also in the whole world. It is a member of the European Union, NATO and Schengen Convention.

There are many places there worth visiting. First, the capital Warsaw, which is located on the western coast of river Vistula. It is an important trade conjunction in Central Europe that has been a flourishing city since it was established. Second, Poland’s old capital Krakow, located in the southern part of the country, is the most popular sight among tourists. Furthermore, 60 km from Krakow is the Auschwitz concentration camp, that is one of the World Culture Heritage Sights. Third, the biggest city in Eastern Poland Bialystok is well-known for its universities and the most famous among them is the Medical University of Bialystok.

Poland’s traditional dishes include beetroot soup, cabbage rolls (cabbage leaves stuffed with meat and rice) and pierogi (dumplings stuffed with cabbage and mushrooms).
